Hello, I have a huge problem with my car. I bought it about a year ago from someone and they were swapping the motors out at the time the car ran fine just had a knock in the motor is what I was told. They swapped it with a 2006 five hundred motor. I had the car a year and have not got to drive it. When you start the car and let it set it will run for a few minutes then shut off. Well, I moved houses on the other side of town and had to move it and could not afford a tow so I drove it for about a mile or so and it shut off once at the red light when I had to sit and wait but when it shuts off it will start back up. I ran a scan tool on it figuring maybe the fuel filter or ground wire maybe but nothing showed up that would cause the car to quit running like this. I need your help before I waste thousands of dollars for me to just junk this big paper weight.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

This could be the result of several things. However, one thing you mentioned leads me in the direction of a crankshaft position sensor. You said when it cools down, it will restart. What I would like for you to do first is read through the following link. It discusses symptoms of a bad sensor. Take not that a bad sensor may not always a trouble code.

If you find the sensor is the issue, here are general directions for replacement:

Here are the specific directions for replacing the sensor if you find it is bad. The picture attached correlates with these directions, showing where it is located.

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR
Removal and Installation
1. With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the 7 pin-type retainers and the RH splash shield.
4. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the bolt and the CKP sensor.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Check this first and let me know what you find. If you need additional help or have other questions, let me know.

Take care,
Joe
