While driving between 40-50 mph and I step on the gas to accelerate (to overtake another car) the car shakes but continues driving fine after hard acceleration is over. The car idles fine and gets good gas mileage as usual.

Has the check engine light come on? When it shakes, does it still accelerate normally?

Check engine light does not come on at any time. And when the car shakes it does accelerate through the the shaking. I took it out a little while ago and drove it hard! From 30 mph thru 60 mph numerous times. Now the shaking is minimal but still present.

Without the check engine light, it becomes a guessing game. Since it isn't coming on, that tells me there are no misfires or sensor issues. Could the shaking be coming from the transmission? Is the fluid clean and full?

I shared that concern as well, Checked it. Full & no burnt smell. Car has 77k miles. Would a faulty injector or coil on plug be so consistent without a check engine light coming on? And why has the shaking reduced so much after the hard runs? If I remove the air intake (to multimeter test the coil on plug) has anyone gotten away without replacing the gasket? Too many questions, not enough $ to replace as a go! Thanks for ur input.

If everything is working correctly, and they usually do, a misfire, coil, sensor, bad plug. Would set the check engine light. That is the part that points me in the direction of the transmission. Now, why it got better after running it hard is the next question. Just for curiosity, have you tried running a fuel injector cleaner through it?

After I hit send, I had another thought. Have you checked to make sure the motor mounts are in good condition?
