Recently I have noticed when I start my ka up after it being left unused for a few hours, the Rev count goes to about 1250 rpm when in idle, but after it has been driven, the idle revs go back to just under 1000rpm at idle,

Does this seem like a serious problem that could develop?

That is normal. The computer is compensating for a cold engine.
