The engine revs up when I engage clutch to change gears

Whenever I engage my clutch to change gears, my car revs up even though I have released the accelerator.

However, if I remove my foot from the accelerator a second before engaging the clutch (engine braking), it does not happen. Is this what rev hang is? How do I fix it?

I never had this problem and it only started immediately after replacing a snapped clutch cable.

Also, a problem that has been around for longer which could have contributed to this is that when engine braking, my car makes a horrible grinding noise like gears grinding together.

Hello,

It sounds like your clutch position switch is not working. This switch tells the engine when the clutch pedal is depressed. Suggest that you check the switch at the clutch pedal, ensure that it is connected and that it is making contact with the clutch pedal. See image below.

Ensure that the switch engages the clutch pedal fully when pedal is up.

Regarding the noise would it please be possible for you to post a video of the issue so that we can evaluate and advise?

Hi Boris,

I checked out the clutch pedal switch and that is not the problem. Can it perhaps be rev hang? or a throttle position sensor? Would it work if I removed the battery terminal to reset the ECU or will that only cause more problems?

Also, I will record the video and post it ASAP.
