So, the car ran out of gas and now won't restart. We added six gallons of gas after running out. We can hear the fuel pump run and tried starting the starter it turns over but won't start it has had to have an ignition replacement before could it be the ignition again?

Hi,

I have a feeling the fuel pump has failed. Do me a favor. See if the engine starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it is fuel related. If it makes no difference, then we need to check the ignition.

If you find it does start for a couple of seconds, I will need you to check the fuel pressure to confirm the pump is the issue. Here is a link that explains how that is done:

On the other hand, if there is no change when trying the starting fluid, I will need you to check for spark to the plugs. Here is a link that explains how that is done:

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
