Good evening

From your description, it sounds like you have a failed head gasket from overheating. That would require major engine work and possibly replacement engine depending on the damage done.

Disassembling and inspecting is the only way to determine the amount of damage. In a lot of cases, it would be cheaper to just replace the engine itself.

Has anyone checked it for you?

I have not had anyone check it as the repair is worth more than the car. If it was the water pump I checked that out and think I could fix it. How would I determine which bank has a failure? Pressure test? Compression test?

No to a water pump.

You would need to do a leak down test in each cylinder. You would do both banks if you confirmed a failed head gasket. You never do just one side.
