My car only goes in reverse but does a horrible knocking sound as it does. I was told to change the solenoids. I kind of think it has to deal with the TCM because it would change into shiftronic and change gears on its own.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

If it is making a bad noise, chances it isn't a shift solenoid or the TCM. Has anyone checked the fluid level or condition? Is it possible for you to upload an audio of the noise so I can hear it?

If there are no broken CV joints or axles and the noise seems to be coming from the transmission, it really sounds like an internal hard part issue or it could even be a broken flex-plate. The inspection plate on the transmission should be removed and the flex plate checked as well as making sure the torque converter is tight.

Take a look through this link:

Let me know if anything in the link seems to mirror what you experience and if there is anything helpful.

Take care,
Joe
