It’s not like it just doesn’t start, it doesn’t even try to turn over, let alone run.

Hi,

When you try starting it, do you hear a click from the starter or anything? The screeching is odd. Did it sound like a belt? I've seen belt-driven accessories lock and the starter couldn't turn the engine.

I attached the wiring schematic for the starter circuit below so that you have a reference. Check the fuses indicated. In addition, make sure there is power to and from the fuse.

Here is a link you may find helpful:

Let me know if you hear anything when you try starting it. If you don't, try starting it in neutral to see if that makes a change.

Take care,

Joe

What would explain the screeching after the engine was turned off?

Hi,

That's a tough question to answer since I didn't hear it, but could it have been a belt or was it more of a metal-to-metal sound? Can you turn the engine by hand? If you remove the belts, can you turn all belt-driven accessories?

Also, do you hear anything when you turn the key to the start position? For example, do you hear a click?
