Hey all. My dad passed away 1 month ago and I'm trying to fix my dads prized car to running condition. Runs fantastic except when it seems if we forget to turn the A/C off before turning off the car, then later get in it and start it, it has no power, barely goes in any gear, and idles very poorly. Takes about 20 minutes for it to go away. I am not a car repair guy at all. What could be doing this? It's a 2004 volvo s 60 r.

Sounds like the compressor clutch maybe sticking/locking and causing drag on the drive belt.

The easiest way to find this out is to remove the belt and see if the issue goes away. Clearly you cannot run the engine for a long period but you should be able to drive it a few miles just to confirm it is no longer acting up with the belt off. If it is then I would replace the compressor.

Here are a couple guides that will help with this:

Please run through this material and let us know what you find when the belt is removed. Thanks
