I noticed my battery light on the dashboard dimmly comming on if my car goes below 2000 rpms n then the rpm gauge started fluttering I lost power pulled over turned the car off n couldnt start it. I jumped it turned on n dame thing happened. I replaced the battery it started up no problem then it all started again I gotta keep it reved above 2000 rpm to keep the battery light from coming on. Yes, it sounds like it will likely need a new alternator.

To save money and time, have the charging system checked at atuozone or advance auto parts. They'll be able to tell you if the alternator is working properly. also have them to check the alternator belt tension. the good thing is, they do these checks for FREE. Please post the results of the tests here.
