My car seems to struggle to change gear. It judders and will not go into reverse when it is doing this, if I turn the car off and leave it for a few hours it seems to correct itself but if I am stopping and starting in traffic it starts it again .

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

There could be many things which can cause this; however, the vehicle is still under full factory power train warranty as well as emissions warranty. I would suggest taking it to the dealer. Confirm with them that the warranty exists before they begin work.

If, however, you want to check it yourself, I would first scan the computer to determine if there are any trouble codes stored in it. Here is a video which shows how to scan.

Many parts stores will do it for free. If you find codes, let me know and I can better guide you to resolve the problem. Honestly, it sounds like a sensor issue. We just need to determine which one.

Let me know what you find.

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe, thank you for your reply. Took it for a diagnostic and the result was; gearbox, code 090c clutch b actuator control circuit low. Would that still come under warranty?

Hi again. That should be covered under the power-train warranty. Contact a dealer and see what they say. If you have problems, let me know.

Take care,.

Hi Joe really could do with help. Will explain from the start; my car seemed to be struggling to go into gear paid for a diagnostic test and got code, gearbox code 090c . I know ford have a recall of transmission control module so took it in but after they did their diagnostics they are saying that it is code p090c clutch b actuator circuit low. Which does not come up with the recall and say it is the clutch that is going so want £1000 ($1,310.34 USD) to fix it. I do not have that kind of money. Is there anything I can do? Cheers, Maggie.

Should not be under the recall but it should still be covered under the five year 60,000 mile power train warranty.

This is from the warranty statement for that vehicle available at -
https://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/brochures/14frdwa2e.pdf

Extended warranty coverage periods are available for certain vehicle parts and conditions. Specifically,
(1) Your vehicle’s Powertrain components are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
The extended coverage applies to the Engine: all internal lubricated parts, cylinder block, cylinder heads, electrical fuel pump, electronic engine control unit, engine mounts, flywheel, injection pump, manifold (exhaust and intake), manifold bolts, oil pan, oil pump, seals and gaskets, thermostat, thermostat housing, timing chain cover, timing chain (gears or belt), turbocharger/supercharger unit, valve covers, water pump

Transmission: all internal parts, clutch cover, seals and gaskets, torque converter, transfer case (including all internal parts), transmission case, transmission mounts

Front-Wheel Drive: axle shafts, bearings (front and rear), center support bearing, drive shafts, final drive housing (including all internal parts), hubs-automatic front locking (four-wheel drive), locking rings (four-wheel drive), seals and gaskets, universal and constant velocity joints
Rear-Wheel Drive: axle shafts, bearings (front and rear), center support bearing, drive axle housing (including all internal parts), drive shaft, propeller shafts, retainers, supports, seals and gaskets, universal and constant velocity joints.
