Car jerking?

The car is jerking when I am at a signal at drive, converting to neutral subsides or lessens the jerk, it also jerks at reverse, but when I start my car on a new day, which does not happen, it starts to happen after a few kms or when the engine is at its running temperature.
Sometimes it also gives late transmission, due to jerks.
My mechanic checked the coil packs by opening them one by one, but he said it was not the problem and then the check engine light went on after he checked.

Hi,

If the check engine light is on, you need to scan the computer to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

https://youtu.be/b2IJGfImVvw

If you don't have a scanner, most parts stores will do it for you free of charge.

Next, often an engine vacuum leak can cause idle issues. Have you checked if there are any? If not, follow this link and let me know if you find a leak:

Also, let me know if there are any odd odors from the exhaust or strange sounds. Also, I need to know if the vehicle runs properly off idle.

Take care,

Joe

Hello, I checked the code with an auto parts store, it says air filter sensor.
Does that cause the car to be jerky? And I also noticed that when A/C is on the jerking is more than usual.

Hi,

I never heard of an air filter sensor. Is it possible they were referring to the mass air flow sensor? It is located in the air induction tube between the air filter box and the throttle body.

If it is the MAF, yes, that will cause drivability issues and could cause what you experience.

Confirm for me that this is a 2005 Nissan Pulsar. If it is, are you located in the US?

Let me know.

Hi,

That is what I was thinking you meant. Were you lucky enough to find one? Also, has anyone tried to service the one you have? They can be serviced. However, make sure you get cleaner specifically designed for a MAF sensor.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/mass-air-flow-service

Let me know if that helps.

Take care,

Joe

I can find one, but I am not sure if that's the only problem.
Also, I am driving in o/d off, when o/d is on gear changing is problematic.

Hi,

Okay, that sounds transmission-related then. It could have to do with transmission line pressure, a torque converter, or the torque converter clutch.

Originally, I suggest scanning the computer. Rather than a traditional scan, you should likely scan the can-bus.

CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules/computers are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them. Here is a link that explains how it's done.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

Let me know if that is something you can have done.

Take care,

Joe

So does all mechanic does that?
And does it show that without the check engine light on?
When the check engine light was on, it showed MAF

Hi,

As far as the can-bus scan, I can't say if all do it. If you go to a reputable shop, they should have a scan tool that can perform it. Have you contacted anyone yet?

Let me know.

Hi,

I am not familiar with them. Actually, I'm not sure where you are located. I would recommend contacting them.
