Car hesitating

2006 TOYOTA COROLLA

Anytime i start my car and put it on drive to and step on the accelerator to move it hesitate even on reverse. it hesitate, but when the gear is on park I can rev the engine.

The first step would be to retrieve any trouble codes from engine control unit. This may or may not give us a direction to go, nevertheless it is necessary because there are several different things that it could be and we don't want you chasing your tail. Let us know what you find.
