Have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? If the check engine light is on, that needs done first. Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

Now, I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will check it for free or lend / rent a scanner to you. If the check engine light is staying on when the engine is running, do this first.
Next, have you checked to confirm fuel pump pressure is within the manufacturer's specs? A faulty pressure regulator can cause pressure to build and force too much fuel into the engine.

Also, have you checked for engine vacuum leaks? They can also cause this type of an issue.
