Car door will not latch

I try to shut the door but it will not latch. it is my driver door. I opened the handle and it stayed in the open position and I pushed it back to close in past this resolved the issue not anymore.

Your going to have to get into the door by removing the inside door handle to see if the rods are bent or jammed. Most likely you have a bad door latch.
