I bought a used alternator , and installed . I cranked my car and let it run, I took off the cables to see if it would stay running.. It still dies, is there a solution ? I don't understand, I'm gonna test volts tomorrow but still... Is there anything else that could cause this???

Never, ever do that battery cable thing again. That might have been OK in the old days when cars had no computers but doing that on today's cars can send a spike through all your sensitive electronics.
Use a voltmeter to determine if the system is charging. If not look for main fuses or fusible links.
