Sounds like it's not getting spark. Engine light is on and the codes are p0340 and p0365. Changed both camshaft sensors and the crankshaft sensor. No change at all.

Good morning,

When you crank the engine, does the tachometer move up a little showing RPM? Trying to see if there is a signal from the crank sensor.

This could be a wiring issue. All the diagnostics point to a wiring issue.

I would do a compression test to make sure the timing chain has not failed.

No, the rpm gauge does not move. The car just makes a whirring sound when trying to start. No spark at all.

Okay. Can you upload a video of the engine cranking so I can hear it?

I'll have to get that tomorrow. The car is on the side of the road about 15 miles away. It sounds like it does when you normally try to turn the key, without catching and turning over.

We are almost positive our timing chain broke. In which case there saying it's cheaper to buy a new motor than to have it fixed. Got it towed home today.

That is where I was going. That is why I wanted to hear it.

I would consider a used motor.

Go to www.car-part.com and check on price and availability.

I've looked around locally for A used motor. Nothing really close by. Even still, the motor and labor alone is going to break us. This car has been nothing but a headache. I would tell everyone not to take a Malibu if it was free.

I am sorry to hear that.

The recommended time to change the chain is 150,000.
