My car completely shut down while I was driving. All the warning lights started coming on (like a power issue) then everything shut down. I tried jumping it and got some power but not enough to start. When trying to jump the battery it drained the vehicle that was jumping me. Also, while jumping there was a slight burning smell. Negative post on battery arcs when touched by cables.

I would remove the battery and have it fully tested at an auto parts store. Normally a free service.

Yes, even a brand new/day old/year old battery can be bad/ defective.

Check your battery connections for corrosion (even a little) tightness.

If you can sort of forcibly make a clamp/connection/cable wiggle, twist or move in it is anchored position, bare handed, it is too loose!
