Car cranks but does not start huge list of codes.

The car will crank but does not turn over. The mil light didn't go on but I checked for codes anyway and there were 12 of them.

I have tried to replace the Battery and ran the shifter up and down to possibly unjam a stuck gear. Spark plugs look great. Still have not checked for compression.

Those are all transmission codes, the u code is basically a loss of communication code. Meaning that one of the modules is not communicating with the others. In your case probably the tcm transmission control module. Check all the fuses in both fuse boxes.
