The factory installed car alarm goes on without warning at different times of the day or night. Also the key fob (?) is capable of remote starting. The car is XLE.
Talked to a car alarm guy and he said that with cars of this age sometimes the door locks need lubrication because they don't shut or lock all the way with the sensor thinking someone is trying to break into the car and the alarm starts to ring.
Also, he said these cars have two pins under the hood that are pressed down when the hood closes and if they are not pressing down firmly the sensors think that someone is trying to open the open to steal the car and therefore alarm could start on its own. This might be the correct diagnosis because when I am driving, sometimes, a red triangle comes on at the dashboard where display comes on (mileage, temps and cruising range etc.) indicating "hood open" when the hood is not open and is locked.
I have tried to locate the pins pressed by the hood, but I can't locate them therefore any suggestion will be helpful (perhaps a diagram). THANKS.
