When trying to fill gas, the pumps shuts down after a second and gas spills out. I have to fill gas tank very slowly so the air can escape around the filler nozzle. Thinking it could be a bad EVAP canister or a clogged EVAP hose or the vent solenoid. I used the TORQUE app to check OBD2 but there are no fault codes and the check engine light is not on. How to diagnose and fix? Is there a trick to fill the gas tank until I get a chance to fix?

Hello,

It sounds like you have a problem with the activated charcoal filter.
These often become faulty and clog up the fuel tank ventilation system.

A good instruction is below.

Please let us know how you get along.

Thanks for your message. However, I have already watched that video. Is there a way to fix the unit instead of replacing the canister/solenoid? Is there a trick to fill the gas tank until I get a chance to fix it?

Just to jump in on this, unfortunately there is not a way to get the tank to fill until this is repaired. You basically have little to no air gap to allow the vapor to vent when filling the tank.

So, the only solution that I can think of is to use a gas can that does not have the shut off valve inside of it. The fuel will still back up and not go in the tank as quickly as it should be the gas can will naturally fill it slower but this would require you to fill a gas can and then use that to fill your tank. Clearly not desirable.

The only chance that I can think that would work would be to unhook the vent lines from the canister to the fill neck.

However, this would cause the system to not work, and you will most likely set a check engine light.

I attached more info from the manual on this system.

Please let us know how you make out.

Thanks
