I have a 2008 Suzuki SX4 with a 2.0L engine, and understand that the lifters need to be shimmed every 30,000 miles. I also own a 2002 Suzuki Aerio with a 2.0L engine that has hydraulic lifters that never need adjustment. Rather than shimming the SX4 can I change the lifters over to the hydraulic ones. I am looking at both and they are the same in size. Both heads have the same oil passages as well. I attached pictures of the oil passages in the SX4 head, also the solid lifter and a shim. If this modification won't work I will need to know how to shim for valve clearance. I have two sets of solid lifters with varies sizes of shims. It seems you would have to install and remove the cams several times to get the shims correct.

I have to start by saying, I'm only allowed to recommend direct fit parts / repairs. Can this be done? Before you do it, contact a parts store and see if they offer hydraulic lifters for your vehicle. If they do, I'm confident that will work.

Please keep in mind, a few thousands of an inch can cause problems for you. They may look the same size but be slightly bigger or smaller.

Thanks for a solution , and a way to find out if the hydraulic lifters are a interchange for the OEM that came in my 2008 Suzuki SX4. I did find the Suzuki factory service manual pages on shimming the solid lifters. I look online or call a couple of parts departments to see if I can buy the hydraulic lifters. If not I will be taking a course in adding shims. I've owned other cars with solid lifters, old Subaru's and VW's. You guys are always helpful.
