I am probably the only owner on a 1998 Ford Contour with a 2.0 engine in the entire United States.
Recently my car developed a check engine light issue which is due to the camshaft phaser sprocket VTC.
A mechanic has confirmed that the sprocket needs replacing, having the OEM Ford part number, we have been searching for this sprocket for over two weeks in the entire internet world to no avail.
Being discontinued, and unable to pass ODB2 inspection it seems that my only choice is to junk a good rust free well taken care of car. Is there anyone out there in this world with any information on obtaining a replacement VTC sprocket?
Thank You

Hi Ken
Unfortunately that phaser # 918-187 is for General Motor cars it will not work on a Ford vehicle. Thank you though.

Ken Believe me, I tried looking with the OEM Ford part number across the entire internet world, i checked on Ebay Australia where the Cougar was made with the same power-train, Ebay Germany and England where Ford Mondeo was made with the same engine and nothing came up. This is actually sad and turned me off to Ford products. My mechanic stated that this was a issue with the Ford Contours and that only in 2000 apparently Ford made an improvement. So i have only the option of trying to find a 2000 junked Ford and pray that the unit isn't broken itself.
