#1 is TDC bottom crank timing mark points north, but the cam tabs were both pointing south. Would the motor run with the cams off? Always has ran rough at stops.

Good morning,

Can you upload a picture of what you see that makes you think the timing is off?

I attached the correct alignment for the chain with the timing marks.

I put saran wrap in # 1 plug (front of motor, piston) when it popped out piston was down, I turned harmonic balancing pulley bolt clockwise until piston was up top. Was clockwise right way to bring piston up for TDC?

Okay, if you look at the diagram I sent you, line up the crankshaft marks that I circled. That is top dead center for the piston in number 1 cylinder.

Rephrasing my last comment. Did I go about getting front # 1 cylinder to TDC the proper way using saran rap for pop of exhaust strike? And thanks for keeping with me through this.

Forget the wrap and just set the marks so they are lined up as in the diagram.

Are or is the mark at 12 o clock?

Now my next question is, does this 97 2.4 have an intake cam oil seal, and if so where does it go? There was no seal when taken apart.

Yes, there is a seal and it should be behind the gear when you remove it.

Can you attach a picture for me to view?
