Cam phasers got terribly load after an oil change. Do they make a cam phaser lock out kit for my engine?

Hi,
As far as lock out, I know they make them for the 5.4L, but I have never seen them for the 4.6.
Can you explain what is happening? Also, if you have any diagnostic trouble codes, let me know those as well. Do you link there is an issue with the trigger wheel or one of the pins?

If they only got loud after an oil change was it the correct oil weight and type? Are they loud all the time or only on initial start?

For a while the phasers would quiet down after starting and running a few minutes but we are past that now.

I know Ford claims that a slight knocking at idle is normal on them but if it's still acting up above idle then it's probably time for replacement. I know there are lockout kits for the 4.6 but it depends on exactly which engine you have.

I haven not had any luck finding them. Every kit I find doesn’t fit my engine.

Hi,
I honestly don't know what to tell you. I was hoping Steve may have had a suggestion. Hopefully, he will jump back in.
If you find the kit, let us know.

That's one of the problems. There are 2, 3 and 4 valve versions of the 4.6 and most of the kits are for the three valve engines. The 2 valves that were used in the E-Series are sort of left out of the mix. There was at least 2 kits that replaced the VVT parts in the 2 valves with fixed sprockets but it seems they are no longer out there. If it were in the shop I'd probably recommend a full timing set for it.

That's another option. I've heard some that rattled for a long time before they failed. You might want to try pulling the actuator solenoids out and being sure the screens are there and clean. They are pulse width modulated parts and the PCM controls the timing by turning them on and off very fast to control the oil flow to the phaser assemblies. Low oil flow could be causing them to chatter.
