Brake caliper leaking from the piston?

just bought a new caliper front right passenger side. The old caliper was leaking from the piston. changed out with new caliper but the new one is leaking from the piston. My only guess is that the pad that goes on the piston side is too worn to hold it in place, therefore the piston is all the way maxed out.

Hi,

For that to be the case, there can't be any pad left. Even then, the piston shouldn't extend that far.

I have a question. Since it is leaking from the piston, is the caliper you purchased a remanufactured part or is it new? If it is a remanufactured one, it may have had the same issues and wasn't properly repaired.

Yes, it is remanufactured. Came from Orielly's. I haven't turned in the core yet.

Chris, is there any pad left? If you are reusing them, I suspect they are still good, so that is why I feel you simply got another caliper that is faulty.

If it is possible, I would recommend trying to get a new part. When it comes to safety features such as brakes, if I can afford it, I always go with new parts.

Check out Rockauto if cost is a concern. Also, if you do get one from them, I can get you a 5% discount code, so let me know. One last thing. If you do go to their site, chances are the "New" calipers will be at the end of their listings for brake calipers. The remanufactured will be first.
