Vehicle listed above is AWD. I was driving one day and out of no where I started hearing a scrapping sound when I would come to almost a complete stop (not the whole time I was braking). Come to find out the brake pad on my drivers side fell off its backing. The other 3 back brakes were all fine. Then, I am driving home and my brakes are smoking like crazy! Looks like an issue with the caliper. This is not an old car and only has 46,000 miles on it. Could an issue with my caliper have cause my brake pad to fall off?

Good afternoon,

If the other side is good, then it could be either the caliper or the brake hose. If either one sticks, the brakes will stay applied and wear down to nothing and the result is what you currently have.

You will need to replace the pads, rotors, caliper and possibly the brake hose as the root cause of failure.

Did you have the brakes checked yet at a shop?
