1997 Cadillac STS anti theft wont let me start the car

hey having trouble with my 97 cadilac seville sts the security system says stabitlity reduced starting disabled due to anti theft remove key. i have bought a new cyclinder for the ignion and put in place but still nothing changed need help on what to do next should and can i just get a junkyard computer and replace the one in the car i had a dealer tell me some one not me piggy backed the wires and that it could have fried the system is this true thanks justin

Typically, bypassing the system is just done by bridging the ignition cylinder with resistors of the same value as the key. Was this new cylinder installed in the coluimn, or was it just connected at the base connector. The reason I ask, is that it is not impossible to install it improperly, leaving the leads susceptible to getting caught in the rack gear, and chewed up. This can be immediate if done improper. My best guess would be to use an ohmmeter at the base of the column, across the ignition cylinder leads(connector disconnected), and see if you have resistance that matches the key, in all ignition ranges(OFF, ACC, RUN, CRANK). The problem with a wrecking yard theft module, they will not be able to tell you which of the 15 possibilities, they are giving you.
