Blower Motor location can change from year to year. It can change with the trim level of the vehicle. A vehicle that has front and rear climate controls may be configured differently than a vehicle that has front controls only. The following are two different repair procedures. One is given because the blower motor is located and accessed in the engine compartment, the other is given because the blower motor is mounted inside the vehicle.

REMOVAL:

Engine Compartment Procedure

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the cowl cross-tower brace.
With a utility knife, cut the rubber insulator at the guide lines and remove the metal patch plate beneath.
Remove the blower motor electrical connector, cooling hose and mounting screws.
Disengage the blower motor from the case.

INSTALLATION:

NOTE
Failure to maintain a 25 mm clearance (about an inch) between the spark plug wires and the HVAC blower motor may result in improper operation or failure of the blower motor.

Install the blower motor fan assembly.
Connect the blower motor electrical connector, cooling hose and mounting screws.
Install the patch plate and the seal insulator patch.
Replace the cowl cross-tower brace (two nuts each side).
Connect the negative battery cable.

REMOVAL:

Passenger Compartment Procedure

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the right hand instrument panel insulator.
Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
Remove the right hand body hinge pillar trim panel by pulling it away from the from body hinge pillar.
Remove the bolts/screws holding the blower motor cover and remove the cover.
Remove two bolts/screws, allowing the third bolt (nearest the right hand rear corner) of the module to remain in place.
While supporting the blower motor, remove the third bolt.
Remove the isolator from the blower motor flange, if necessary.

INSTALLATION:

NOTE
The impeller is part of a blower motor service kit. The kit is preassembled and balanced. Therefore, do not attempt to separate the impeller from the blower motor.

Install the motor.
Position the isolator on the blower motor flange.
Align the motor with the opening in the bottom of the module and carefully move the motor up and into position.

Install the bolts/screws and tighten them to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
Install the right hand body hinge pillar trim panel by pressing it into position until retainers snap into place.
Connect the blower motor electrical connector.
Install the right hand instrument panel insulator.
Connect the negative battery cable.

Tilt the powertrain by removing the front subframe bolts, and lowering the frame with a floor jack. Remove the ignition module/coil assemblies, and reposition the harness for access. Remove the 5-6 7mm blower mounting bolts, lift the motor upward to clear the impeller from the case and remove. Reverse procedure to install.
