Hello:
I am worried about a repair job that is pending on my cadillac. The engine light came with the owner's manual saying it was an emissions problem (probably) and to run through a full tank of high grade fuel and check the gas tank cap. I did these two things and the engine light remained on, but was not flashing.
I took it to the local cadillac dealership and they said the computer indicated it was the timing chain - but it was not definite. They also said they would not know until they broke the engine down. I have a great warranty policy through Lexus where it purchased the car, but they cannot perform the repairs.
As it stands now, I may be liable for a hefty bill if they go in and find it is not the timing chain. If the computer says it's the timing chain, but the car is only indicating a slight sluggishness on acceleration with no noise, etc. could it still be a timing chain problem. I am not driving it right now because I am worried it will break destroy the engine (per dealership). Should I take it to another dealership for a second opinion? I have had no problems with the current dealership, but am terrified of them finding a simple problem that is not covered.
Can you offer any advice?
ADDENDUM:
I use synthetic oil but the computer can only be reset for every 3 months oil change, rather than every 6 months. On my last oil change, I was about 4 to 6 weeks overdue on the 6 month oil change date. The filter was dirty, but the mechanic said the oil was very high grade and the engine seemed fine. Could this late oil change have caused the problem?
I did tell the dealership and they did not see any issue with it either.
