The rack and pinion steering was replaced and since the steering is VERY tight or stiff or just plan hard to use.

I've taken it back twice they tell me it's O.K.

I really can't use it like it is. Will it loosen?

Who is THEY, a dealer? If so, maybe they have a similar vehicle in for service or used inventory that they can compare it to.

To answer your question the THEY is a local repair shop. One I have used for a few years. But he doesn't seem to want to address it. I have taken it back 2X's and all he does is say he drove it and it's O.K. or move the wheel back and forth while it is not moving and said it's O.K.

The only thing I can suggest, without being able to feel it for myself, is get a second opinion. If you have a dealer close by, maybe they even have a vehicle to compare it too. It is hard to convince the shop that installed a part, that there is something wrong, especially if they aren't regularly seeing vehicles similar to yours. Assuming you have owned and driven it since new, you know when something isn't right.
