My 1995 Seville just started showing a fault code of P056 which is the input shaft speed sensor. Right now the "service light" is intermittant. I've heard terrible nightmares about this being only a $30 part but that the transmission needs to be removed and dissasmbled to replace this sensor. Is there any other way? I have been getting estimates anywhere from $1200 to $2500 to fix. The book on the car is only $3500 and I'm not sure I want to spend the money. So far it is still shifting okay.

It was a fairly common failure on Caddys of that era. The only other way is to tilt the powertrain low enough to access and remove the side cover and channel plate. This is somewhat of a flat rate procedure, and is usually only done by those that have done several of these over time.
