The car will run fine but at other times it does not change gears, it will stay on 1st gear as if it is waiting until it hits the right speed, but it never gets the message that it is time. someone told me that it was the speed sensor. is this so? and if it is, where is it located?

Is the check engine light on? Press off and warmer on the climate panel, hold them. After a segment check it will display codes.
