This info comes from a manual for a 1991 seville and it does say it will take around 20 minutes. You must disconnect the ground cable from the battery for about 2 minutes then reconnect prior to doing this.

Apply the parking brake

make sure the front wheels are straight.

turn off the electronic climate control.

start the engine in park and let idle for 15 minutes.

then put your foot on the brake pedal, shift the transaxle to Drive and let it idle for 3 minutes or more. do not accelerate the engine. then:

with the vehicle in drive, turn the electronic climate control to "auto" and let engine idle for 3 minutes or more.

turn your engine off.

now your computer is programmed.
