heater is not hot enough. takes the heater long time to warm up. air only flows through defrost vents

Check that the thermostat is not stuck open, or not regulating temp properly. The coolant hoses under the hood should get hot to the touch, to the point you have to remove your hand. If you can keep your hand on them, it is not warm enough.
