After driving at highway speeds for 1 hour or more the front wheels will "hop" when turning either left or right lock to lock. No noise is detectable at any speed to indicate a bearing problem. When the vehicle is driven around town (slower speeds) it doesn't exhibit the problem. What is the problem?

Possible fault with the viscous clutch in the transfer case.
