Hi, I have a 2000 escalade that I am having trouble with. I bought the truck used last year and it has never really started quickly. I have in the last few weeks not been able to start it at all without using starting fluid you can drive it all day long runs smooth as silk but when you stop be prepared for it not to start When it sits for a few days the battery goes down. I can hear the fuel pump come on and smell gas outside the truck I was told by the previous owner that he had the fuel pump replaced but I do not know when. We have put all new spark pulgs wires ect previous to it not starting at all thinking it needed a turn up any suggestions? Signed. Ready to junk it! LOL

I am having problems with my car starting all the time. It has gotten worse and now it won't start until I try starting it, then turn everything off, lock all doors, stay inside the car and after 10 minutes the clock goes off and then it will start. The security light sometimes stays on. I have had the problem for several years. When it first started it would only do it every 10 or so times, other times it would start fine. Now it is every time I try to start it. Even if I only turn it off for a few minutes to run in the store. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! We took it to the dealer here and after a bill of over $500.00 it worked for a little while then I took it back in and they said they couldn't fix it. Oh, another thing is that my automatic lock system doesn't always unlock the driver's door and sometimes when I use it to lock the doors, the drivers side lock only goes down half way.

By allowing the vehicle to sit with the key on for 10+ minutes, you are bypassing the security system. I hate to say it, but the system needs to be scanned by a dealer. They are the only ones with the proper test equipment. The security system it not allowing you to start the engine.

I don't leave the key on for the ten minutes. I take the key out, lock everything up and turn everything off then sit for 10 minutes. I feel like it is a security problem but as I said, the dealer we have here have said they don't know what is wrong and can't fix it. Thanks for your quick response but the key isn't the problem I don't think since I do take the key out.

I realy don't want to tow this thing to the dealership if I can fix it myself. But without my fluke meter it's harder to track down the prob. I'm hoping someone might have had the same issue before and can help me out. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP BUT TURNS OUT IT'S NOT. SO I CHANGED THE FILTER AND THE BATTERY AND THE SPARK PLUGS... AND NOTHIN SO FAR. NEXT GUESS IS TP SENSOR? HELP?

I would say crank sensor, do you have spark? Try also to squirt carb cleaner in the intake, does it fire up then? It would mean fuel, for spark ck the coil, and coil wire, or does it have 8 coil packs sorry I dont remember

Ok what have you checked so far? I would like you to check for spark and see if you are getting fuel. To check for spark you pull a spark plug wire off and put a philips screw driver in the end of the plug wire and put near metal like the valve cover and crank it and see if there is spark. As for fuel pressure there should be a valve on the fuel rail that looks like a tire valve remove the cap and get a small screw driver to depress the valve but have a rag handy and keep your eyes away as there should be about 60 psi here. What you are looking for is if the fuel comes out like it has lots of pressure behind it or if it just trickles out, if you do this after the spark test (put the wire back on the plug before checking the fuel pressure) then you don't have to do anything but depress hte valve as there should already be pressure there. Let me know what you find.

I would recommend checking fuel pressure. The misfires cold could be due to low pressure, and even deposits in the poppet style injectors.

Engine will start when it is cold and runs fine. Seems to burn more fuel, After the engine is shut off, it cranks, but will not start. Security light is illuminated and a ratcheting noise is coming from the throttle body.

Hello,

It sounds like the security module is having a problem, is the light flashing? If so exit the car and roll up all of the windows, then lock the doors using the remote. Let the car sit for 30 minutes and unlock the door and try to start the car.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
