1998 Cadillac El Dorado Front Wheel Drive Automatic

shifting out of park to drive after car is shut off and re started is very hard. after car has ran a while shifter gets better.

Is it hard to push the button in on the shifter handle? I had one awhile back that was that way, I believe it was older than 98. Never had a resolution, it appeared that overcoming the magnetism of the brake/trans shift interlock soleno was the issue. The solenoid was only available with the shifter, and the shifter was discontinued. I had replaced it with a used shifter that seemed to work, but the customer disagreed. I tried lubing with no success.
