1984 Cadillac El Dorado V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My starter went on when I turned the key but the engine did not. The engine did not want to turn off after putting the ignition key in the off position. The car finally went off burning the starter. What could be the problem

You sure the engine is not seizing up/locked-up? Check it by manually turning the crankshaft over 720degs
