2004 Cadillac Deville V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

hauling stuff had to tie down trunk with twine, put twine around wires now trunk will not latch

The trunk latch is mechanical, I could understand if it would not electrically release. When you close it, does it hit solid and make a clunk? Has the latch been tripped, and you are trying to close it against a closed latch. Have you tried the release or key cylinder, out of curiosity.

When you wrapped twine around the trunk wiring loom / latch area, one of these happened:

Latch is “pre-closed” (Most Common)

The latch jaw flipped to the closed position while trunk is open, so it physically cannot accept the striker.

This video will show you how to fix it, is uses a door for the example but it works on trunks and hood latches.
