Removing the water pump requires a special socket for the Northstar exclusively. Other than that, it is not difficult. Locate the belt that is driven off of the front bank intake camshaft at the trans end, that is the water pump drive belt. Remove the air cleaner housing, the lower radiator hose and heater hose from the cover. Remove the belt gaurd, tensioner, belt, the four bolts for the cover, and there is the pump. With the proper socket that engages the cogs of the pump, it can be removed and replaced. Concern yourself with the direction it rotates, and don't over-rotate it, because the tabs can fold, and that creates a more difficult situation.
