The fuel pump relay is in the underhood fuse block, in front of the left front(driver) strut tower. It is either under the flap that provides access to the mini fuses, or you need to remove the plastic cover. There will be a sticker on the underside of the cover, the legend for the fuse relay center.

yes, if fuel pump relay or fuse is bad then it will not let the fuel pump get power to be able to pump fuel to engine..

The few seconds is normal as the ECM controls the relay to build rail pressure in anticipation of cranking. Check the fuel pump fuse in the underhood fuse center. If it is blown, you could have a short, but it is more probable that the fuel pump has high resistance and is drawing too many amps and opened the fuse.

hello,

Here is a wiring diagram that show where the power is coming from which looks like a fuse. Here is a guide on how to check for power

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know what you find.

Could be the computer fuel pump control circuit of the relay, also check the oil pressure sending unit.

Do this diagnostic. You will need a DVOM (Digital Volt/Ohm Meter for this.

If there is no power to the relay, check to make sure the wiring under the relay block hasn't come loose. If it is good, you need to trace the wiring until you find where the break is located.

That is normal to build rail pressure, if there is no continuing rpm signal the pump is shut down. You have only checked one avenue. You need to check spark, and if you have spark, check that the injectors are firing.

i have got a 1983 Cadillac Coupe Deville and I am having trouble with the fuel pump. when i go to start the car it really wants to turn over, but the fuel pump won't turn pump gas to the engine. But if i put gas in the carberator then it will try to run off the gas i put in the carbirator.
we have gotten it once to run off the gas i put in the carbirator. i am debating if it is the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, or a blown or missing fuse. the problem comes, because i don't know which relay is which. can someone please give me some suggestions on this subject?

do a fuel pressure check. in most cases, it is the fuel pump itself that has failed.

Fuse relay block is under the back seat.
I'm new to this forum. Working on a 99 Cadillac STS 4 door. Similar story as above. Fuel pump replaced. Ran fine then he let it run out of gas. Now now power at the pump. Fuse and relay are good. I did swap the relay jic. Probing the relay block I get constant 12v for relay but no voltage for relay control circuit. I power probed the fuel pump and checked fuel pressure 39 psi. Tried starting it with power probe on fuel pump. Cranks well but no start. I wonder if the computer needs a signal to fire up?
Tomorrow I'll check the drkgrn\wht wire for power. Where does the green and white wire get power? I want to check there.

Welcome to the forum, make sure the pink wire tot he relay has power, then the drgrn/wht wire is the trigger from the ECM. If the crankshaft sensor or MAR sensor is not working the engine will not start. Please check out this video it can help us get started to fixing the problem.

Please let me know what happens.
