Steering problem

Power steering hose keeps blowing off? The pump is new along with pulley and serpentine belt. There doesn"t seem to be a hose blockage. Any Ideas?

Hi:
That could be either the high pressure or return. How is it attached?

The hose has a 3/8" rubber hose had slides on back side (left while facing the motor) of the cooling unit, secured with a clamp.

It sounds like a low pressure / return line. You may have a restriction in the cooler, try bypassing it with a short length of hose (P/S return line-not fuel hose) and see if it still does it. If so, the rack unit may have an internal problem (spool valve). If your vehicle is equipped with Speed Sensitive Steering, you will need to do a pressure test with a high pressure tester to see if there is an issue in the SSS system
Below is a brief description of the P/S system
Let me know if this helps.

I am having the same problem on same year make and model cadi. When I fill power steering fluid up then start the car and turn the wheel the line at. The cooler pops off. As soon as the power steering starts working. And is easy. To turn the. Wheel the line pops off. Any ideas on a fix. Also if it does hold pressure at the cooler the line connected to what looks like a fuel filter pops off.I know thats not a fuel filter just saying what. It. Looks like. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem on my 1994 Cadillac DeVille, the line popped off at the filter. The line is on the bottom side of the pump. So what is causing that?

Hi,

I noticed it has been a couple of days since you were contacted. I apologize for that. It's because you added on to an existing thread.

Regardless, is there anything that causes it to happen, or is it as soon as you start the vehicle? Also, is this the high pressure or return hose?

I suppose it's possible that there is a blockage in the system. If you're getting good flow on the return line, it's not a blockage.

In this case, I would isolate the cooler and flush it first separately to clean out any potential blockage. I've had luck with the cleaner. If you run it at idle, it should be okay to run a flush through it. I've used Sea Foam Transmission and Power Steering cleaner successfully. Remove the reservoir and clean it first, then add the cleaner to the system. Run it at idle and every so often turn the wheel slowly to circulate the cleaner.

If pressure is still too high, it's likely the flow control valve is bad. So, let me know if the flush doesn't help. For your reference, I attached a pic below showing the valve.

Take care,

Joe.
