I was recently pulled over and issued a fix-it ticket for not having brake lights my directional lights work, my parking lights work. When i step on the brake the brake lights and third brake light (located in the rear window) do not come on.

If all brake lights don't work, it is high probability that the brake switch is failed. The switch is on the pedal assembly, and there may be two, one would have a vacuum line attached to it for cruise disable. If you can determine that power is getting to the switch, and not through it, then replace the switch.
