1985 Cadillac Deville center shaft

How do I get the center shaft to stay in so I can compress the spring useing a spring compressor that is made for this purpose. Steering wheel has tilt and teloscoping.

There is a set screw, a special tool for this purpose, that goes into the shaft to lock it. Sort of the same function that the locking lever accomplishes. I am not sure where you can locate one of these in the general public, If you can find a tool distributor(MAC, Snap-on, etc.), they may be able to help you.
