Heater problem
1983 Cadillac Deville V8 Two Wheel Drive 62000 miles

when I first got the car the heater didnt seem very warm. Then one day I dont have the heater onat allnd I feel heat coming out of the vents by the windshield. Hot very hot like I wouljd like it if the heater was on. But it wasnt. So I couldnt turn it off. Time goes on heat went away now I t hardly heats when I turn it on. Tilme goes on now its coming out again without the heater being on. Its going to be hot soon I want to be able to turn it off. Whats going on please can u tell me. We have changed water pump thermostate flushed system new anti freeze.

Sounds like the problem is under the dash. Not sure if this year had cables or vacumn controls, but it sounds like you are loosing control of the heater campartment door. It may just be sticking, but it sounds like you need to go under the dash and follow the vacumn/cable lines to the heater box and see what is going on there. When you find the door, try working the heater controls and see what response you get. Repair lines/cables accordingly.

Step 1 - A heater cannot operate unless the engine is full of coolant/antifreeze. If coolant level is low check the system for leaks.
