2003 Cadillac CTS 03 Caddy CTS tranny wont shift into 4th

Just today my transmission will not shift into 4th gear, its gets stuck in 3rd. When slowing down it shifts into 2nd pretty hard and shifting into first is fine. What could be the problem and can I drive about 216 miles stuck in 3rd if I stay at or below 60? I am on vacation and need to drive home.

If the check engine light is on, have the codes read, record them, and then cleared. It may be defaulting in response to a fault, and clearing may restore proper operation, unless it is a hard fault. As far as driving a long distance, I can't guarantee that it will not cause you collateral damage.
