Electrical problem
2000 Cadillac CTS Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 170000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
A friend's car is in my driveway with a dead battery and will not take a charge with my battery charger (must have less than 1 V charge according to the charger instructions or is just plain dead).

I was going to try to use my jumper cables but I am not sure where the negative is. I only see the postiive cable and the battery has a fuse and relay system on top.

Reluctant to cause more damage I backed off and left the car. In this case would I go to a ground on the car and the positive terminal?

Thanks, Bill

do you see the battery under the hood? i think the battery is under the rear seat. the positive thing you see under the hood is probably the jump start terminal. get back to me.

You were exactly right - the battery was under the back seat. I would never have looked there. THANK YOU!

After a while I did get the car started and got it back to my friend.

Another question if I may. My daughter has a 99 Toyota Solara with about 110,000 miles and from time to time she has complained that the car tries to stall out at a stop (however there have been times when the car has begun to run rough during operation).

We never get a fault code and I think the dealer who sold us the car may have disconnected the check engine light system after repeated attempts to fix it.

Last night I was driving the car and stopped and it began to try to stall. I gave it a little gas and kept it going. For a second I thought I could smell something but did not recoginize the smell.

A few minutes later it did the same thing in a friend's driveway.

We bought the car used at 91,000 so I do not know what has been done with it previously.

What do you think could be causing the problem? The local Toyota dealer said they would need the card for a few days to try to get it to repeat the problem.

The check engine light never comes on. Firestone has had it on a diagnostic machine several times but they never get any codes.
