2000 Cadillac Catera odometer

I believe the speed is given to the IPC from the Brake/Traction module. It is given from one of the wheel speed sensors. Do you have an ABS warning light on by chance? I would say if you don't, you could have a faulty EBTCM, IPC, or wiring in between. The IPC can be tested with a scan tool and a function called gauge sweep test.

thank you so much this sounds like it is what the problem is. The day the odometer went out the abs and the tcs light both came on and my cruise control went out. Would that happen from what you say the problem might be

If you had a wheel speed sensor not sending a signal at all, that could cause it. A faulty brake/traction module, or wiring also. It could be as simple as a wheel speed sensor not plugged in. I think it is right rear that is responsible, but not 100%. You might be advised to have trouble codes read, and perhaps a diagnosis to be sure.

Thank you so much after hearing what ya had to say the first time i went out and pulled off the drivers side front tire and there on the brake was a little sensor that plugs right in to the brake pad.Well the sensor on that side is broken the wire was just kinda hanging there could this be the problem or should i have the rear one checked as well

If the wires plug into a brake pad, this is a pad wear sensor. I am not certain if open circuit triggers brake pad wear light, or shorting to ground. What you have if the wires are broken/severed is an open circuit. If you are certain it goes to a brake pad, I would check the rear, and/or have it scanned for codes.
