The vehicle listed above is an LX. The TPMS light is off and on for about 2 weeks (intermittent) and then the check engine light comes up. AutoZone scanned and came up with code C1611. From your previous post, this code could indicate Steering issue (but it is fine), ABS (brake is fine and no ESC light) and could be TPMS? The TPMS can be on when driving in the early morning (cold) and disappears after 5 minutes of driving. Discount Tires twice checked all TPMS sensors of each tire and confirmed they are good. I suspect the code C1611 is the communication issue caused from TPMS but I do not know where to start. Please help. Thanks

So this means there is a module that is not working inside the CAN BUS system. With all the systems on I would check all fuses.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

This guide can help you and I have included the fuse locations in the images below:

C1611: CAN Time-out EMS (Engine Management System)

Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Sorry to respond late since I was out of town. Thanks for your suggestion; I indeed checked all the fuses (3 fuse boxes) and disconnected the negative side to clear the code. After that, when driving in the morning (only happens in the morning?), The TPMS (letter, not the low air icon) will appear for about 5 minutes of driving and disappears and then the check engine light comes up and stays on. The good strange thing is the van is running good, no issue with steering nor with braking (ABS). It is also low mileage due to being used on the short drive mostly (72K). Any more ideas are welcomed. Thanks

Lets rerun the codes for the CAN system to see if any more codes are stored. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

Can I ask if the car has a temperature gauge and if so, does it stay on the cold mark? If the thermostat sticks open it can cause the engine computer to stay in open loop and time out. You may have two separate problems here.

I just came to AutoZone to rescan and got the same report:

Test Result Summary:
Check Engine: FAIL
ABS: FAIL
Emission Ready: NO
Service Internal: PASS
Power Train System:
P0140 - O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0138 - O2 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
Anti-Lock Brake System:
C1611: Lost communication with ECM
C1616: CAN Communication bus off
C1102: Battery voltage low
So, the cause is from 2 different sources: O2 of bank 1 sensor 2 (replaced last year?) And from ABS. Which one is the real cause?
Thanks for your help.

Also, yes the van has a Temperature Gauge and the gauge always stays in cold area: max is close to center line, not goes over the hot area (flushed and filled with new coolant at the end of August).

C1102: Battery voltage low is the code that can be causing the problem. I would remove the battery and have the auto parts store load test it. Please let me know what happens.

Battery is more than 3 years old so I just replaced it with a new one from Costco. Unfortunately the same issue (TPMS + Check Engine lights) comes back not long after that! I think I get to have the repair shop to figure out later. Thank you very much for all the inputs.

So you still have these codes? Did you clear the cods and re-run them?

C1611: Lost communication with ECM
C1616: CAN Communication bus off
C1102: Battery voltage low

Please let me know.

Codes were cleared from disconnecting the old battery when replacing with the new one. The car runs fine for about 5 minutes then the TPMS / Check Engine lights come on. TPMS light will be off and on but check Engine is on permanently. Thanks

The codes will not clear when the battery is disconnected, please use your scanner and clear them, once that is done turn the ignition system on without starting the engine and then rerun the codes, this will give us the most relevant codes.

I cleared the code with my cheap scanner and drove to the nearby AutoZone to rescan and unfortunately the codes are the same as before. I wonder if it safe to drive the van under this condition until I am able to bring to the auto repair shop later. Thanks

I would replace the ECM with a preprogrammed unit by searching google or ebay. Here is how the job is done. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
